Decanter Scores! 91 Cab, 91 Grenache, 90 Barbera
May 7, 2024
91pts-2022 Cabernet Sauvignon-"Great herbal aromatics leap forward from this high mountain Cabernet sourced from four different sites in the Sierra Foothills—crushed stone minerality, green peppercorns, bay leaf frame cassis and blackberries with mint. The palate is well-structured and bright. Red and early season berry fruits are marked with fleshy bing cherry and candid raspberry notes. An excellent savoury kick of garrigue and a touch of dusty eucalyptus helps this wine towards the finish."-Clive Pursehouse
91pts-2022 Grenache-"The 2022 vintage of Grenache from Lava Cap in El Dorado County is a blend of two blocks planted in 1999 and 2015, respectively. The wine's aromatics are a melange of warm countryside berries and savoury spice, with white pepper and mint coming together. The palate offers strawberry flesh, spiced red plums and a melange of green and white peppercorn. This wine combines the ripeness of fresh berry fruit with the savoury spice that the variety is known to produce."-Clive Pursehouse
90pts-2020 Barbera-"Though it doesn't carry the spry, lively character typically associated with Barbera, this wine from over 825m in the Sierra Foothills offers mixed berry fruits and tart cranberry character. Aromas of bramble berries and oak-driven spice are given over to a palate that comes across as a mouthful of berry fruits. Tart cranberry, ripe blueberries, and early-season blackberries play well together; a kiss of milk chocolate and allspice finish the wine."-Clive Pursehouse
