2021 Petite Sirah
Tasting Notes
The 2021 Petite Sirah starts with aromas of blackberries, blueberries, and clove. A big wine, but in balance, the finish is framed by silky tannins and ample acidity.
Vineyard Notes
Lava Cap sourced grapes from 2 vineyards for our 2020 Petite Sirah. The Granite Hill vineyard and the Leahy Vineyard. Both vineyards consistently produce highly decorated Petite Sirah wine. The soil in the Granite hill is a granitic loam giving the grapes plenty of water and nutrients that allow the vines to develop complexity and depth with a lengthy growing season. The Leahy vineyard grows in decomposed, iron-rich slate, the perfect medium for a low yield and high stress vineyard, resulting in grapes of intense dark-fruit flavors.
Winemaker Notes
Fermented in stainless steel, followed by 30 months in neutral French oak. The extended barrel time softened the big tannins associated with this grape, while the use of neutral oak preserves the vibrant fruit aromas.
