2023 Grenache
Tasting Notes
You can taste the mountains in this wine, with a character that is uniquely bright and fresh. The nose is dominated by vibrant red fruit, including strawberry and rhubarb. The light tannin, and delicate color and framed by vibrant acidity. Both intense and subtle, a great wine for chicken, rice, and pasta dishes.
Vineyard Notes
Grenache is native to Spain and is known as "granacha" in its homeland. Here at Lava Cap, our estate grown Grenache is recognized for its delicate body and aromatic nose. We planted our Grenache in 1999 in the lower region of our vineyard where the volcanic soil begins to transition to granitic bedrock. We added second block in 2015 on a warmer South West facing site.
Winemaker Notes
Our 2023 vintage was co-ferment of our two Grenache blocks, which were handpicked and then carefully sorted for only the cleanest grapes. After cold soaking for 4 days, fermentation proceeded with selected yeasts at low temperatures. To preserve the wonderful brightness of the 2023 Grenache, it was aged for only 9 months in neutral French Oak, with no racking before blending and bottling.
