2023 Vermentino
Tasting Notes
A light and expressive wine, the 2023 greets the nose with grapefruit, blood orange and wet stone. On the palate this dry wine shows bright flavors of lemon and green apple, followed by moderate acidity for a refreshing and long finish.
Vineyard Notes
The 2023 Vermentino is grown on the banks of the American River at 1200ft at the Matagrano Vineyard, the same location as our Sangiovese. This site has very warm days, and some of the coolest nights in the region, due to the steep surrounding canyons the funnel cold Sierra breazes down the American River. Rocky soil that resulted from eons of river erosion further make for a compelling site for Italian grapes.
Winemaker Notes
The grapes for this wine were hand picked and sorted before a gentle pressing. The wine was settled for 48hrs before being racked and fermented at 60 degrees in stainless steel over three weeks. Following fermentation mallolactic fermentation was prevented, and the wine was aged on fine lees for 4 months. 5% of the blend was aged in nuetral French oak barrels.
